Hoverboards! Weee!
Just wanted to share a project I worked on for my Game Design & Development study at the HKU in Utrecht. I think the picture says it all. Basically it's a hoverboard-game that is controlled with two actual boards. Up to 2 players can race on two very different boards, one that resembles a snowboard and one that is more of a platform. Two giant beamers project the game on the wall (1 beamer for each player) while a third beamer projects an interactive topdown view of the level on to a table. The table has buttons that allow the audience to place trees, rocks and other obstacles in the level, which the two players then have to dodge.
The table was made from a keyboard mod, and features:
Obstacles: Trees, mall rocks, big rocks, debry, buildings, large buildings, flocks of birds, day/night switch, rain, wind, snowstorm, snow covered landscape, fog, wireframe-mode, skid-objects and eye-catchers. (Huge slabs of level that fill the entire screen)
I did not make the table, credit for that goes to one of my classmates, Sebastiaan. But I did make the two hoverboards.
Some more information about the boards:
I made both boards all by myself, and they can hold the weight of up to two people at once. Both boards have an USB connection, so you can basically play any normal pc-racegame with them. It was a lot of work, but hey, who wouldn't want one of these babies at home?
